MARTIN CREED
The Galerie im Taxispalais presents the first solo exhibition in Austria of Martin Creed (*1968 in Wakefield, lives and works in London), who counts as one of the most important British artists of his generation. Creed's broad-ranging work encompasses sculptures and installations as well as photographs, videos, neon writing and painting. He is also a musician and dance choreographer. His visual works, for which he uses everyday objects including light bulbs, kitchen rolls or tables, are playful yet reduced in form. His creative production repeatedly focuses on putting objects into – often absurd – order. For example, he visualizes half the air volume of a room by filling it with an appropriately large number of balloons. Using minimalistic interventions and unexpected, humorous and subversive ideas, he creates works that astonish our perception and challenge the traditional categories of art. In 2001 Martin Creed was awarded the renowned Turner Prize.
