Eating in Films
film screening
In the context of the exhibition Eating the Universe, in close cooperation with the Galerie im Taxispalais, LEOKINO & Cinematograph are showing the film series Eating in Films.
Not all that we eat is palatable, by any means. But we still eat it! From the tender loins of a Mangalitza pig not yet two months old to a triple Big-Mac – one the questionable excrescence of haute cuisine for the (not so very) sensitive epicure, the other a remarkable freak of nutrition created by a calculating, world-wide fast food business: illustrious personalities who define themselves via food on the one hand and people led by others, wasting no thought on the choice of food products on the other. And between these extreme nutritional opposites, we see a degenerate society shown up in film by means of culinary absurdities, a family celebration at which the participants emotional equilibrium falls apart, a man who abandons custom to assault another man and fi nally eats him, girls who would prefer to waste (themselves) away rather than consume anything, entire areas of countryside that fall victim to the cultivation of tomatoes. And what happens in-between? Cooking, cooking, cooking for all one’s worth. These are the ingredients of the 12-part film series Eating in Films. (wg)
